Shasta Land Trust’s Wildways

Shasta Land Trust’s popular fundraiser, Wildways, takes place this Saturday. For $20 a ticket, you’ll be treated to music from Roma, delicious finger foods, and a chance to purchase tickets to a number of special parties and events. You can visit http://www.shastalandtrust.org/ to obtain more information about these parties and to obtain Wildways tickets ahead of time. The parties offered include a chance to participate in a round-up at Hathaway Ranch (deluxe picnic lunch included), a bird-watching outing with Audubon president Bill Oliver, a homemade pasta-making lesson with Doni Greenberg and Kelly Brewer at the Greenbergs’ beautiful Craftsman-style home, and a tour of Prather ranch that includes a scrumptious picnic lunch featuring their world-class beef. This is just a handful of the imaginative and tempting offerings, so be sure to check them out! These are very special opportunities that don’t come along all that often. And all the proceeds go to Shasta Land Trust’s work of preserving important tracts of land in the area.

In addition to the above, you’ll also have a chance to participate in a silent art auction. Approximately thirty area artists will have their work on display, including yours truly, and the pieces available for bid include the following media: paintings, pastels, photography, pottery, hand-turned wooden bowls, metal sculptures, Phillips Mill birdhouses, and multi-media works. This is a terrific opportunity to pick up pieces from some of your favorite artists; the bidding usually starts at half the usual purchase price, and again, the proceeds benefit the land trust and their mission.

Above is the piece, “Rondel,” that I’ve donated. It’s a triptych made from found wood, agates and an agate slab, found metal, beads, and hardware. It can be hung on a wall or displayed on a flat surface (as shown). What doesn’t show up in this photo are the intriguing reflections that are created by the metallic beads on both the wood and the metal flashing. It’s a very lively work.

So come on by the Senior Citizens’ Hall this Saturday! Wildways starts at 6 PM. It is definitely one of the most enjoyable events of the year.
